On Curupira Steps

Somehow, to understand Vila Velha's ruin-form geological history is to see Lina Bo Bardi’s design process for the Chame-Chame house. Not by chance, Lina visited the naturally sculpted structures in 1958, the same year she started the design for the house built in Salvador. Organic and inorganic memories within their walls, shaped — and destroyed — by the action of water and wind just as much as by the hands of a craftsman. A creation act tied to its condition of finitude. A non-linear design process following Curupira’s steps.
